Changes Its Name

 

The name of General Electric Co's transformer division Locke department in Baltimore has been changed to the insulator department, William S. Ginn, general manager of the division, announced today.

The department headed by Paul R. Hartig, formerly manager of employe and plant community relations for Pittsfield, makes porcelain for bushings and lightning arresters, and other porcelain insulators for electrical equipment.

Other departments in the division, which is headquartered here, are the distribution transformer, power transformer, transformer laboratories and legal departments, all headquartered in Pittsfield, the medium transformer department in Rome, Ga., and the capacitor department in Hudson Falls, N. Y.

The insulator business was founded in 1892 by Fred M. Locke as the Locke Insulator Co. in Victor, N. Y. The company affiliated with GE in 1920, moved to Baltimore in 1922 and became a GE department in 1951.
