Society Opens at Ellenville

The Ulster county fair opened at Ellenville, Thursday. There was a small attendance on the opening day. If the weather is favorable a large crown is expected Wednesday, when the annual parade of the fire department takes place.

There are some good exhibits of stock and farm produce. Superintendent Webb shows a fine herd of Jersey cattle and Southdown sheep, George H. Briggs has a fine 13 months Holstein bull and calf and registered Dorset horse, buck and two ewes. Frank Freer shows Todd's improved Chester white hogs and Shropshire ewes and buck. Asa Heddin has a herd of mulleys, and there are a number of native cows and working cattle.

 

SPECIAL DISPLAYS

 

Dubois Bros. have a show of farm wagons and implements. U. A. Gould has a large tent filled with musical instruments, H. R. Tics & Son show some nice carriages. The "Whirlpool" washer manufactured in Ellenville, is exhibited. In the main building there are a number of nice displays. Besides the fancy goods department and the space given to household and domestic exhibits, George Russell shows a handsome case of horseshoes, Beers & Co., hardware, Chas. Dall of Newburg, cream preparations for cleaning. A. Flato, clocks and jewelry, Dutcher & Briggs, furniture, A. H. Bill, sewing machines, Grant Holmes & Peck, dry goods, shoes, hats and clothing, N. Leopold & Son dress goods, cloaks, shoes, etc., Ellenville Glass Works, Samuel Low, insurance and typewriters.

The third day will be known as "Children's Day," when all children taking part in the parade will be admitted to the fair free.

The O & W will sell round trip tickets for 75 cents from Middletown, Winterton 60c, Bloomingburg 50c, Wurtsboro 40c, Summitville 30c, Mountain Dale 55c, Centreville 65c, Fallsburg 70c, Hurleyville 85c, Liberty $1.15.
