EX-JUDGE HEMINGRAY DEAD.

Heart Failure Causes the Sudden

Death of the Well-Known Lawyer

at His Home on

Seventh Street.

Ex-Judge Joseph C. Hemingray died suddenly at 12:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 1143 Seventh street, he has been in poor health for some time, but no serious trouble was apprehended, and his death was a painful shock to his family and friends. Dr. Cottell, the family physician, was called in, but Judge Hemingray was dead from heart failure before he arrived. No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made

Ex-Judge Hemingray was born in Pittsburgh sixty-six years ago. His parents died when he was a mere child, and when some relatives moved to Hopkinsville, Ky., in 1838, he accompanied them. There he entered the legal profession, and was in high standing at the Southwestern Kentucky bar during his stay there. While in Hopkinsville he met his wife, a young lady from Western Missouri, who, with a daughter and son, Reuben P. Hemingray survived him. He also leaves a brother in Covington.

In the spring of 1878 ex-Judge Hemingray removed to Louisville. Here he had remained up to the time of his death, with the exception of the year 1881. which he spent in Leadville, Col., and had built up a good practice. He was a man of thought and culture and had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends. In all public matters that touched upon his profession, he took great interest, and when the change in the Jefferson county courts was being discussed by the Constitutional Convention last winter he was one of the warmest advocate of the old system. He was a leading Odd Fellow, and it is probable that his funeral will be conducted by the members of that order.
