On Thursday night, May 3, the most disastrous fire that has ever visited Millville broke out in the South Millville works of the Whitall-Tatum Glass Company, which destroyed factories 9, 10, 11 and 12, entailing a financial loss of about $100,000. Three dwellings in the vicinity were slightly damaged. Two of the destroyed factories had been in operation, one had just been put out of commission for repairs and one had just been rebuilt. Several of the firemen and others assisting were hurt but none very seriously.

The latest information is that the Whitall-Tatum Company will rebuild with modern fire-proof buildings. At the present time a temporary roof is over factories 9 and 10. The men who were employed in the destroyed factories were idle only a short time.
