Exhibits Draw Unusual Interest

Judging by the manner in which bottlers inspected the 150-odd exhibits of machinery and equipment manufacturers and supply firms, one would not have been aware the business depression was affecting the country; and, in fact, the purchases made during the exposition indicated conclusively that bottlers generally have experienced a very good year.

While the machinery, equipment and supply exposition, held in conjunction with the twelfth annual convention of the American Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages, was not as large as that held last year, in the light of existing; conditions it exceeded expectations of association officials. This year, because of the change in the convention schedule allowing bottlers more time in which to be free to inspect the exhibits, the exhibitors stated that a greater number of sales were consummated and more prospects were interviewed during the convention than at any other meeting, despite the fact that there were a fewer number of bottlers enrolled.

The beauty of the exhibits cannot be aptly described. On entering the main arena of the exhibit hall a kaleidoscopic scene greeted the eye. Multicolored lights revolved and flashed, transforming the great hall into an aurora borealis lighted mart, while acting as a background was the sound of whirling machinery, a subdued roar as two thousand people spoke at the same time. A carnival spirit pervaded throughout. On one side was joke and swift repartee intermixed with light laughter; on the other was sober discussion, and selling infused with logic and cold, undeniable facts, while from a distance the even cadence and rhythmic tones of a band infused the delegates and salesmen with ardor.

The amount of business transacted during the exposition is hard accurately to determine. Many exhibitors were enthused over the results, others were well pleased, while some stated that the meeting met all their expectations; and a few were frankly dissatisfied. In general, we believe, however, that from a business standpoint the recent exposition was better than existing business conditions would seem to warrant.
