Glass Works Saves a House — Two

Farm Residences Burned.

Yesterday afternoon about three o'clock fire was discovered in the roof of a house belonging to Lee Lacey, the grocer, and occupied by Samuel Bird on Macedonia avenue near Ball Bros. glass works. At the factory a splendid fire system is kept in readiness, which was turned loose on the blaze by a dozen or more glass workers, whose heroic efforts cut a probable $800 loss down just one half and saved the building. Loss covered by insurance in companies represented by J. L. Little.

In the family's absence last night the house and contents of Charles Collins near Tabor, this county, was totally consumed by fire. The house belonged to the Hoover heirs.

The home of J. Williams three miles south of the city was consumed by fire last night. No insurance.

The cause given in all the above cases was defective flues.
