GALLANT SUED FOR DIVORCE.


Muncie, Ind., Sept. 22. — Inquires from Cleveland, O., regarding Phillip W. McAbee, secretary and treasurer of the Indiana Oil company, of this city, yesterday astounded his friends and furnished a shock for Muncie.

With the inquires came the news that McAbee, who posed as a single man in Muncie for several months, is to be made the defendant in a suit for divorce, instituted today by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Ellen McAbee.

McAbee has been noted in this part of the state for the elaborate manner in which he entertained. His engagement to two of the most prominent and wealthy young women of this city was rumored one after the other. McAbee gave many dinners and automobile parties. He is one of the foremost members of two of the leading social clubs of the city.

McAbee came to Muncie last year. His position entitled him to consideration upon the part of the leading oil operators, and he gained entrance to the best society. According to the dispatches from Cleveland the whereabouts of Mr. McAbee meanwhile were unknown to Mrs. McAbee.

When communicated with today McAbee stated that he had nothing to say. He evidenced the utmost astonishment that his dual life should have been disclosed.
