East Liverpool seems to be the centre to which all new plants go to secure managers and workmen. The new Thomas China Co., of Lisbon, which expects to start in about sixty days, has appointed W. F. Keates, formerly of Wheeling, manager. Mr. Keates is now stopping at the Thompson House for the purpose of engaging operatives to work in the Lisbon plant when completed. The demand for operative potters to go to various points the past two years has been large, and this fall it will be greater than ever, from present indications. At the same time an important increase of capacity has been made in the home plants, demanding many more operatives. The potter's trade is one that is certainly not overcrowded in this country, and it is enjoying a prosperity that should place the operatives on the easy road towards comfortable homes of their own and a savings account for future emergencies. |
