THE GLASS AND LAMP FACTORIES.

PITTSBURGH. — The leading glass factories say trade is moving along in a quite, regular way, and that September this year really shows an improvement in volume over the same month last year; but there has been a constant tendency toward a shrinkage in prices in nearly all branches until within a short period.

The flint glass manufacturers held another meeting here, continuing two days, at which they formed an organization, elected officers, and made preparations to file papers for incorporation. The following are the officers elected: A. Hart McKee, of McKee Bros, president; H. C. Fry, president of the Rochester Tumbler Co., first vice-president; Daniel C. Ripley, president of the United States Glass Co., second vice-president; Daniel Updegraff, of the Pittsburgh Glass Co., secretary; and J. B. Wilson, treasurer. It now seems probable that the completion of the organization will be carried out, and the United States Manufacturers' Association, as it is called, will become a fact. The leading glassware manufacturers have concluded to join the association to secure their own welfare and be enabled to obtain living prices on staples, selling now at or below cost of manufacture. There will be no disturbance in trade by unnecessary advances. All lines of glassware will be put on an economical manufacturing basis, and, upon the whole, everybody is expected to be benefited. This makes an organization similar to the American Glass Co. A board of directors will have complete charge of the general affairs of the company. They will probably establish a central sales agency, make a uniform price list based on weight of glass and cost of labor, and regulate production. Stock is to be issued to each proprietor according to the appraised value of the plant. Each plant will be regulated by its pot capacity in the conduct of business. The following firms are reported to have signed the agreement, and others are expected to do so: Canton Glass Co., Marion, Ind.; Co-operative Glass Co., limited, Beaver Falls, Pa.; Geo. Duncan's Sons & Co., Washington, Pa.; Dalzell, Gilmore & Leighton Co., Findlay, O.; Hemingray Glass Co., Muncie, Ind.; A. H. Heisey & Co., Newark, O.; Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Co., Greentown, Ind.; McKee Bros., Pittsburgh, Pa.; Ohio Flint Glass Co., Dunkirk, Ind.; Pittsburgh Glass Co., Pittsburgh; Riverside Glass Works, Wellsburg, W. Va.; Rochester Tumbler Co., Rochester, Pa.; Tarentum Glass Co., Tarentum, Pa.; United States Glass Co., Pittsburgh; Greensburg Glass Co., Greensburg, Pa.; Model Flint Glass Co., Albany, Ind.; Robinson Glass Co., Zanesville, O.; Central Glass Co., Wheeling, W. Va.; Beatty-Brady Glass Co., Dunkirk, Ind.
