"VANITY FAIR" Covington Women Organize for Grand Charity. THE CHILDREN'S HOME A scene of Festivity, December 10 and 17.
Prominent Covington women are still working to create a surplus in the treasury of the Children's Home. About 30 women met Friday at the residence of Mrs. Bradford Shinkle. It was decided to hold a bazaar at the home Thursday and Friday, Dec. 16 and 17. Miss Carroll Hemingray was Chairman pro tem. A permanent organization was affected with Mrs. J. W. Baldridge, Chairman, and Miss Carroll Hemingray, Secretary. The bazaar has been named "Vanity Fair," and will be one of the brilliant social events of the season. "Society" will be out en masse to patronize the affair. On a Big Scale. Preparations on a large scale are being made. Each room at the Home will be set aside for a definite purpose. One room will represent "Old Vienna," where lunch will be served. In a second will be a handsome display of Gibson pictures; a third will be given up to Indian relics where braves and squaws in native costume will be the attendants. A good minstrel show will be given in another department. One of the most attractive places will be the Japanese tea room. A gipsy fortune teller will hold sway. A dime museum, containing a number or wonderful curios, will be arranged. "A Lady Bountiful." A "Lady Bountiful" will dispense her wares, and there will be a number of candy booths. The services of prominent professionals and amateurs will be secured, who will present a good musical program in Old Vienna, the Japanese tearoom, where the geisha girls will be the attendants. The attendants in each department will be attired in appropriate costumes. These, with the decorations, will make the guests feel that they have been transported into foreign lands. Two matinees in the afternoon, with special performances for the school children between 3:30 and 4:30 o'clock will be given. An effort will be made to have Miss Schuster repeat her presentation of "A Cue from Cuba." A dramatization of "Mother Goose" will also be presented. Those in Charge.
