— Appointment of Delegates to

Louisville State Convention.

Pursuant to a call from the Kenton County Republican Executive Committee, a mass convention was held at the Court-house at Independence this morning for the purpose of appointing delegates to the State Convention, which meets at Louisville May 1st, for the election of delegates to the Chicago Convention.

The meeting was called to order about 10 o'clock by Gen. John W. Finnell, Chairman of the Executive Committee, who, in a thrilling and forcible speech, which was loudly applauded, stated the object of the meeting.

The name of Jno. D. Shutt, for temporary chairman, was put in nomination by Gen. Finnell amid deafening applause, which lasted fully ten minutes, amid cat calls, war hoops, and hisses. The name of Elwood Livezey was also put in nomination by Bralis Willis, of Benton, followed by a general uproar and more shouts.

The Postoffice and Revenue Department elements began to clash, and all attempts to speak by either party was met with shouts and hisses. The chair announced that only Republican votes would be counted.

Messrs. Richardson and Fisk were appointed tellers. The name of Shutt being put in nomination he received almost the entire vote of the room. Maj. Richardson's motion was put again by Chas. Fisk (more shouts).
