The Bushwick Glass Works, Brooklyn, New York, are running three furnaces including their new gas furnace. This latter is a novelty and said to be the only one in successful operation in this country. The gas for heating is produced in a Wilson patent gas producer, and is situated outside of the glass house. The tank for holding gas is about ten feet high and nine feet in diameter, and the gas is conveyed in pipes to the furnace together with a sufficient quantity of air to cause an intense combustion. The capacity of the furnace is 3,000 pounds of glass at one melting. It has also been utilized for annealing with some success. It is thought that a saving in production can be effected over the ordinary style of furnace. Everything in the line of green glass is made at this establishment. |
