O'MARA HAD KNOWLEDGE Knew Where Paisley Was Before Information Was Made. Superintendent Roger O'Mara of the bureau of detectives said this morning that he knew all along where Paisley was. Four days before the information was made out he knew he was at Virginia Beach, and when the information was filed he sent Detective McQuaide to that place. McQuaide found that Paisley had left but had only gone a short distance, not over 30 miles. By inquiry from the person who owned the cottage at Virginia Beach, occupied by Paisley, he learned that the missing Pittsburger had gone to Old Point comfort. McQuaide followed and found Paisley sick in bed. His condition was such that it was out of the question to have arrested him, and would have been inhuman to move him. McQuaide reported to O'Mara, stating that Paisley could not get away owing to his illness and that the superintendent had expressed his willingness to come back, when able. McQuaide waited for a few days in the hope that Paisley would recover sufficiently to be removed but he did not and under orders from Superintendent O'Mara, McQuaide returned to Pittsburg. The information given out by Superintendent O'Mara only confirms the opinion expressed by the public generally, at the time that the detectives knew where the fugitive was. They emphatically denied, however, that they had any information on the subject, and even denied that Detective McQuaide had been detailed on the case. When the fact was published, no one acquainted with Detective McQuaide doubted that he would find Paisley if he was after him. |
