School Board.

 

School Board met last night with President Ramsey in the chair, and all members present except Mr. Hemingray. Treasurer Becker presented his monthly report, which was as follows:

Receipts, $20,166.13; disbursements, $13,322.75; on hand, $13,987.47. The committee on buildings was ordered to repair the Fourth District School-house. It was announced that Montgomery & Co. would supply the coal for the year. Messrs. Lyle, Bishop, and Hemingray, of the committee on school organizations, reported in favor of electing a superintendent of the schools and abolishing the position of assistant principal in the schools. The report was adopted, and it was decided to lay the election over for two weeks. Those voting in favor of a superintendent were Messrs. Ramsey, Bostwick, Bishop, Cambron, Clarke, Howell, Lyle, Richardson, Wadell, Wood, and Wise — 11. Those voting against were Messrs. Endress, Kelly, McDonald, Mecklenborg, McNamara, Meininger, and Ragenthal — 7. The teachers of the high school were re-elected, except Mr. T. J. Slattery was put in the place of W. L. Lord, resigned. The old force of teachers in the district schools were re-elected, except the assistant principals, whose positions had been vacated by the adoption of the report of the committee on school organization. The following substitutes were elected: Misses Fagan, Grossmiller, Lantenschlager, Barney, Jarvis, Condell, Shaw, Hawes, Shine, and Unkraut. Miss Hettie Merriam was chosen teacher of penmanship.
