The Sunday Laws to be Looked After.

Music Fund Hall, in Bullock Block, was comfortably filled last evening by prominent and influential gentlemen assembled to take some action in regard to the enforcement of the Sunday laws. Hon. John W. Stevenson was called to the chair, and Mr. J. D. Shutt was chosen as Secretary.

The Chairman made a few explanatory remarks. He was followed by Rev. W. H. Felix, when the following resolutions were adopted:

RESOLUTIONS:

"Whereas, There exist in the statutes of our State, and ordinances of our city, laws providing for the observance of the first day of the week as a day of abstinence from all regular labors other than those necessity or charity; and

"Whereas, The violation of these laws is public and notorious, to the palpable detriment of good manners and morals in our community, besides tending greatly to the increase of crime; and

"Whereas, Moreover, this is a question of interest not to any church or party alone, but to society at large, and to each earnest citizen in particular, especially to the laboring man who is dependent upon his daily toil for his support, and upon this day for his much needed rest; therefore:

"Resolved, First, That a committee of twenty-five or more citizens be appointed by this meeting to procure and execute a plan to secure a better observance of Sunday, in accordance with the spirit of the civil laws.

"Second — That this committee shall have power to fill vacancies in its won body.

"Lastly — That we regard with pleasure the recent action of the citizens of our neighboring city of Cincinnati in the matter, and welcome it as a move in the right direction; and we would extend to them our cordial sympathy, encouragement, and co-operation."

The resolutions were unanimously adopted, and the following gentlemen delivered addresses: Hon. J. W. Stevenson, Rev. W. H. Felix, C. W. Rowland, A. Shinkle, Rev. G. F. Bugbee, Dr. Geo. S. Savage, Mr. Feltman, Mr. Crso.
