The Silver Wedding of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Dulaney.
One of the most delightful of the many pleasant affairs this season was the silver wedding anniversary celebration last evening at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Dulaney. Their friends, knowing the date, conceived a surprise to commemorate the event, but through the eagerness of the newspapers for news it leaked out, and the recipients could only wait, supported by Delmonico Lehman, for the coming of the wedding guests. The evening was particularly fit for such an occasion, and friends gathered by the score, filing the elegant home to repletion. A parlor orchestra diffused sweet music to charm the ear and send the merry feet flying through terpsichorean measures, while the older guests chatted and laughed, whiling the hours all too quickly away. The invitations had requested the to meet at the residence of Mr. John W. Martin, but the press notices sent most of them direct to the home of the Doctor, and by the time the surprisers arrived the parlors were full. After an early lunch the older folks retired and their juniors took possession of the floors, dancing until an early hour. The luncheon was one of John Lehman's best; sandwiches, salads, coffee, cake, confections, and fruits, served with the good management and taste that renders him even more popular year by year. A curious feature about this part of the evenings' enjoyment is the fact that Mr. Lehman set the wedding supper for the same couple twenty-five years ago. The graceful dancing of the bride and groom during the evening elicited the remark that four generations were represented from the venerable mother of Mrs. Dulaney, to Master John, the wide-awake toddling grandchild. The presents were numerous, costly, and appropriative. Among them was noted: Bronze clock and statuettes, Misses Lida Hays, Kate Sandford, Lydia Martin, and Lucy Sandford, and Messrs. Bruce, Bond, Harmon, Hays, Charles Runyon, John Binley, Marshall Hill, Samuel Kidd, Thos. A. Greene, Ben Robinson, John F. Fiske, Jun., John Armstrong, and Perry Moxley; silver water service, W. R. Dulaney and wife. Another silver water service, Edward C. Reiss; dinner caster, Dr. and Mrs. E. S. Stuard; fruit stand, silver base and cut-glass dish, Augustus Haven; rich basket of natural growing flowers, Mrs. Augustus Haven; pickle caster, silver and cut-glass, J. S.
