FRY PLANT THREATENED WHEN STORE ROOM BURNED Fire of unknown origin visited the H. C. Fry Glass Co.'s plant, Rochester, Pa., Sunday evening, causing considerable loss and for a time threatening the whole plant with destruction. The flames were discovered at 9 o'clock in a large storeroom containing hay and excelsior in bales. Before they could be extinguished the flames had communicated to two box cars belonging to the Pennsylvania Railroad Co., also loaded with the same inflammable material. Weakness in the water pressure prevented successful fighting of the fire, and both the storeroom and two railraod cars were burned. The loss to the Fry company is estimated at $1,500, while the burnt cars and contents entail a loss of $3,500. The burned storeroom contained five carloads of hay and excelsior which the Fry plant used for packing wares. |
