Anent Funeral of Col. Pilkington.

The events in connection with the obsequies of Col. William Windle Pilkington will stand out in a remarkable manner as a tribute to the work and worth of "a man among men," as Col. Pilkington was so aptly described at the Council meeting. After a joint meeting of the Council and Education Committee, which placed on record the deep sense of loss which the town, has sustained by his death, and condolence with the bereaved family, the funeral service was held in the Ormskirk Street Congregational church, where the deceased worshipped, and of which he was such a generous supporter, and both in prayer and address eloquent references were made by Rev. J. G. Jones, and by Rev. Sylvester Home, M. P., to Col. Pilkington 's splendid character and his many excellent qualities.

The funeral afterwards took place at St. Helen's cemetery, along the route to which there were thousands of people who had assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to a townsman who held a singularly high place in their estimation, while in the cemetery there was a very Large crowd of people who stood around the grave while the last sad rites were performed, and afterwards filed past the open grave and gazed upon the great mass of floral tributes which had come from far and near as an expression of the general regret at the loss of a great captain of industry, a great philanthropist, and a true friend of every noble cause. — St. Helens, England, Newspaper and Advertiser.
