Resumed Operations September 24.

No. 12 factory at the South Millville plant of Whitall Tatum Co. resumed operations Tuesday morning, September 24, says the Bridgeton Evening News. With the resumption of this factory, only No. 5 will not be in operation and as yet there have been no preparations to start that one.

Pot furnaces, number one and two and tanks eight, nine, ten, eleven and twelve will be in operation. This is within one of being the number going last fire. No. 5 was in operation.

Conditions are similar at the upper works of the same company. Last year there were three factories in operation, there being three shifts on one most of the year, while this year the small tank has not yet been started. The two big continuous tanks are in operation.

So far the company has been starting factories one at a time, evidently feeling their way forward as to the possibility of obtaining the necessary workmen. The advanced wages offered glassworkers has brought a number of men who were employed in shipyards and other out-of-town industries, back to Millville. The advanced pay offered to boys has attracted the necessary number to the factories.

Under present conditions and if they continue as good, it seems certain that the glass industry in Millville may get through the winter without greatly slowing down.

In addition to the Whitall Tatum factories, the several other plants located in Millville appear to be operating in an encouraging manner.
