GLASS FACTORY BUSY.

Notwithstanding Unprecedented Season Companies Have Plenty of Orders and Will Operate Indefinitely.

Practically all the Millville, N. J., glass workers, numbering upwards of 3,000, will continue to work during July, and a condition never before known in the history of the industry prevails, in that all the firms are a unit in deciding to work indefinitely.

Of course there will be a forced stop at some of the plants, as it is regarded as almost certain that some of the furnaces have almost done their full duty and are apt to go bad now at any moment.

Upon the inquiry at the Glasstown works of Whitall Tatum Company we were told that there was no intention or indication of an early shut down.

At the South Millville works of the same company, No. 11, a small factory, will be put out Tuesday, but Nos. 1, 2, 5, 8 and 12 will run on full capacity, or rather as full as possible, the boy shortage having made the extent of the work everywhere problematical.

At the T.C. Wheaton works, where almost double the ware made in any previous season has been turned out this blast, all four of the factories will keep a-humming, and here also no shut down is in sight.

The Millville Bottle Works is in the swim also and will run on indefinitely.

Some of the firms are running some of the factories almost entirely on government orders, and it is imperative that this ware be turned out. The orders throughout the country have been larger this season than ever before and many have been received from Central and South American points and Cuba.

It was stated during the fuel shortage last winter that all the plants would close at the end of June, but the situation has greatly changed and it would work an unnecessary hardship on manufacturers, workmen and consumers to order a shut down with the books of the concerns filled with orders and the demand on the market far exceeding the supply. - Millville Daily Republican.
