VICTOR WILL KEEP THE

LOCKE INSULATOR WORKS

Village Has Subscribed Twenty-Five Hundred Dollars

and Mr. Locke Has Purchased a New Site

and Will Rush Work on His Plant as Weather Permits.

Victor people are congratulating themselves that the Locke Insulator Works, destroyed by fire last Sunday afternoon, are to be rebuilt and remain in that village. As soon as the news of the loss of the plant was known Mr. Locke was the recipient of many communications from other towns and cities, making him tempting offers to move his works and business to their locality.

Mr. Locke, however. realized that his home town, in which his business had made its reputation, offered many inducements that other towns could not, and after considering the matter he made the statement that, if the citizens would raise him $2,500, he would drop all outside negotiations and begin the work of rebuilding at once.

As soon as his proposition was known the board of trade called a public meeting Tuesday evening, which was largely attended, and at which time arrangements were made for a thorough and rapid circulation of subscription papers throughout the village, and town on the following day. The movement met with much encouragement and at nightfall of Wednesday the officers of the board reported to Mr. Locke that his conditions had been complied with, the full amount having been raised. The workingmen, as well as the business men of the town are much pleased at the result, as the closing or removing of the industry from the village would have meant considerable financial loss to trade, and necessarily mach hardship to those who had been employed there. The employees themselves subscribed liberally to the fund, both in pledges of money and labor.

Plans are now being drawn for the new buildings, which are to be much more extensive than the old ones, and the work of rebuilding is expected to begin as the weather will permit. In the meantime temporary buildings will be erected to enable Mr. Locke to complete his outstanding and unfilled orders as far as possible. He has purchased as a site for his new plant the Conover estate, on a portion of which his old factory was located. It is conveniently located beside the tracks of the New York Central, and contains enough land to enable Mr. Locke to enlarge his buildings as his business growth demands. The buildings will be fireproof as far as possible and will be fully up to date in every respect.
