*The Glass-blowers of Covington.*
It is quietly rumored in certain quarters that the glass-blowers of this city are making preparations to demand higher wages, and in case that is refused, to enter on as strike. — [Covington Item, Cin. Com.]
A deputation of the Covington glass-blowers waited on us this morning, and requested us to correct the foregoing item. The movement they have in view has no reference to wages, nor is a strike contemplated. The sole object in view is to make arrangements to avoid working in very hot weather, when, as even an outsider may know, the work is extremely exhausting and trying to the best constitutions. The movement is not confined to Covington, it is designed to make it general throughout the country. |
