A New Enterprise

 

S. J. Oakman of the Oakman Manufacturing company of Boston has arrived in town and will begin operations in a couple of months for a glass plant. The brick works plant will be utilized for the purpose. The building is to be somewhat remodeled and an addition built on. The new firm is to be known as the Oakman Manufacturing company. It consists of S. J. Oakman, R. A. Burget and New York capitalists. About 50 hands will be employed in the beginning, eventually a hundred or more will be employed. They will manufacture carboys, demijohns and insulators.

S. J. Oakman, one of the firm, has had considerable experience in the glass business, having been in the occupation for 30 years. This new industry will be gladly welcomed by the people of Cheshire. The officers are: President, Wingate P. Sargent, Boston; secretary, James R. Powers, Boston; treasurer, W. M. Baldwin, Pittsfield; superintendent, Samuel Oakman, Boston.
