Insulator Plant In Victor Will Solve Problem Will Absorb Unemployed Men of Village; 80 to Be Used; Big Stock Issue Taken
According to Supervisor John S. Woolston, "the depression will soon be a thing of the past in Victor." This statement was made here today in view of plans which have been completed, Mr. Woolston said, for the establishment in Victor of a new industry to be known as the Victor Insulator, Inc. The new plant, for which ground will be broken May 10, will in all essentials, bridge the industrial gap which has existed in the village since the close of the Locke Insulator plant. "At the same time," said Mr. Woolston, "It is anticipated that the new industry will absorb practically all of the unemployed in the village, dispensing almost entirely with the welfare rolls." Explaining that new Victor corporation has been made possible through a $75,000 stock issue, Mr. Woolston pointed out that merchants in the village have personally subscribed $25,000 worth of the stock. "I think all Victor business men and other interested local citizens," said Mr. Woolston, "are to be highly commended for their public spirited action in supporting the venture which will virtually assure the return of the community to a sound economic footing. "Every effort will be made to place the plant in operation as soon as possible," he said, "and it has been decided to give preference to local labor. If later on the demands for labor are such that other workers are needed, they will be drawn from the immediate vicinity." Mr. Woolston said that the new plant, when all departments have been completely organized, should employ approximately 80 men. Among those primarily interested in the establishment of the new industry is former Ontario County Treasurer Homer E. Snyder. |
