The New Suspension Bridge Over the Ohio River at Cincinnati, Ohio |

BRIDGE OVER THE OHIO.
NEW YORK is peculiarly unfortunate in her bridges. LOEW'S bridge is a decided failure, and ought to be pulled down; the East River bridge project has resolved itself into an impracticable tunnel scheme; and for some time to come it is likely that Broadway and East River will be spanned only by bridges of ice. They are more fortunate with their bridges elsewhere. St. Louis is building a splendid structure over the Mississippi, Louisville is spanning the falls of the Ohio with another, while Cincinnati has lately finished the bridge which we illustrate. This bridge was begun in 1856 and finished in 1867. The cost was $1,750,000. The total length is 2,252 feet, 1,057 of which are from tower to tower, and the floor is 100 feet above the "low-water mark."
