A meeting of the new association of glass manufacturers, comprising tableware and chimney men, was held at the Monongahela House on Thursday. The thirty-one firms comprising the association, the names of whom were printed in the last number of the JOURNAL, were all represented, but no new ones were admitted, as it was thought there would be. The business was principally confined to the work of organization, and no outside questions were taken up. The title agreed upon was the Glass Manufacturers' Protective Association, and the following officers were chosen: Geo. W. Blair, of Dithridge & Co., president; R. J. Beatty, of the United States Glass Co., first vice-president; James Hogan, of Hogan, Evans & Co., Ltd., secretary; James D. Wilson, of the Tarentum Glass Co., treasurer; and A. Hart McKee, of McKee Bros.; Chas. J. Bockins, of the Canton Glass Co.; and D. W. Baird, of the Riverside Glass Works, additional managers. All of the above-named constitute the executive committee. This association is quite distinct from the other two organizations of flint glass manufacturers. It is strictly a commercial association, having cognizance of the relations between manufacturers and dealers, and already it is a strong and influential body. At the meeting, besides the election of officers, the new constitution and by-laws were formulated and adopted, which concluded the business. The executive committee were in session on Saturday, and discussed and acted upon some matters.
