National Tariff Convention.

Chicago, Nov. 15 — The Industrial League of America opened it first National Tariff Convention at Fairbanks' Hall, Central Masonic Hall building, at 11 o'clock this morning. The objects of the convention are the purification of the public service, the restoration of the National flag upon the ocean, the advancement of the interests of the ship building industry regaining our lost place in the carrying trade, a discussion of the advisability of an early and progressive reduction of the internal taxes of the General Government, and a discussion of the means to naturalize new industries upon our soil. The convention assembled with ex-Governor Rufus Bullock, of Atlanta, in the chair. He made a brief speech, stating the aims and objects of the convention. Joseph Scanlin and E. H. Talbot, of Chicago, and J. B. Barber, of New York, were appointed secretaries, and a committee on permanent organization was then chosen, including H. J. Smith, of California, after which it adjourned at 8 p.m.
