SOON TO REBUILD

PORCELAIN PLANT

Restoration of the plant of the Union Electrical Porcelain Works, Hamilton Avenue and Clark Streets, which was gutted by a fire of unknown origin last night, will probably be started soon. A member of the firm of the Duncan Mackensie Sons' Company, which operates the plant, said this morning that no definite plans had been formulated but it is expected that the structure will be put in its former condition.

The fire was discovered by a boy who saw smoke issuing from the windows of the plant about 11 o'clock last night. He notified Patrolman Sanders, who turned in an alarm. When Battalion Chief McGill, who answered the alarm, saw the seriousness of the fire, he turned in a second alarm which was answered by Chief Bennett with several more companies. The entire contents and the woodwork of the plant was destroyed. The damage is estimated to be about $100,000. A part of the Union Iron Works, adjoining the burning building, caught fire several times, but was extinguished by the firemen. Linemen from the Public Service Corporation were sent to cut the wires around the building.

The ambulance and a surgeon were sent to the scene by McKinley Hospital, but no one was injured. The same plant was partially destroyed by fire a few years ago.
