MEN AND GIRLS OUT

AT PORCELAIN WORKS

Fourteen pressers employed at the Union Electrical Porcelain Works have quit work and have induced the finisher girls to go out with them because they say the rate paid by the firm is not in accordance with that of other shops.

At the works today a Times reporter was informed by a member of the company that there was no strike and that the places of the workmen would be speedily filled.

The men demanded piece work or an increase in wages it was stated and both demands were refused. At this they left their places in the works. Three men had been obtained up until noon to take their places and an advertisement in this paper asks for girls to do finishing. There is said to be no union in this city of the trade referred to and no uniform rate of wages has been established.
