NEW APPOINTMENTS ON THE POLICE AND

FIRE BOARDS.

The Mayor nominated Andrew Cunningham for Police Commissioner, the Controller expressed his preference for Alderman Taylor, and the Auditor nominated Mr. James L. Jensen. The Controller withdrew the name of Mr. Taylor, and on the mention of the auditor to appoint Mr. Jensen being put to the vote the Controller and Auditor voted for him, and he was declared duly appointed. Shortly after, the newly appointed commissioners were sworn in. Mr. Jensen, the latest addition to the Police Board, is of Danish birth, having been born in the town of Flanceburg in 1837. He came to this country at an early age and engaged in the hardware business. In 1867 he opened the Empire China Works in Greenpoint, of which he is now sole proprietor. Mr. Jensen is a Republican in politics and is secretary of the Seventeenth Ward Association. In accepting the position, he states that he has made no pledge except to act for the best interests of the city.
