A. F. G. W. U. REPORT SHOWS GREAT

PROSPERTIY IN ORGANIZATION.


Existing conditions in the American Flint Glass Workers' Union leave little to be desired, according to the quarterly report for the three months beginning Dec. 1, 1916, and ending Feb. 28, 1917, which shows the organization to be in an unparalleled state of prosperity.

In this report Secretary-Treasurer Chas. J. Shipman says: "As this report goes to you we have $228,321.21 in our treasury, and it is particularly gratifying to be able to state that never in the history of the organization has our treasury been in such a flourishing condition, and not since June 1, 1908, have we had so few members on our relief roll, as at the present time we have but one member drawing relief, which reflects volumes of credit to our membership for the unexcelled progress that our association has made and its most brilliant achievements.

The report shows that at present the total membership of the A. F. G. W. U. is 9,808, of which only 2 per cent is unemployed.

The employment statistics by departments is as follows:

Press, 2,228 members; employed at the trade, 1,958; outside the trade, 243; unemployed, 27.

Cutting, 1,255 members; employed at the trade, 1,082; outside the trade, 158; unemployed, 15.

Chimney, 1,019 members; employed at the trade, 882; outside the trade, 119; unemployed, 18.

Punch and Stem, 1,077 members; employed at the trade, 1,013; outside the trade, 59; unemployed, 5.

Bulb, 1,044 members; employed at the trade, 943; outside the trade, 93; unemployed, 8.

Moldmaking, 751 members; employed at the trade, 715; outside the trade, 34; unemployed, 2.

Paste Mold, 516 members; employed at the trade, 482; outside the trade, 26; unemployed, 8.

Caster Place, 831 members; employed at the trade, 806; outside the trade, 9; unemployed, 16.

Iron Mold, 380 members; employed at the trade, 331; outside the trade, 38; unemployed, 11.

Shade and Globe, 89 members; employed at the trade, 76; outside the trade, 4; unemployed, 9.

Machine Press, 150 members; employed at the trade, 142; outside the trade, 8.

Insulator, 67 members; employed at the trade, 60; outside the trade, 6; unemployed, 1.

Engraving, 30 members; employed at the trade, 27; outside the trade, 3.

Stopper Grinders, 21 members; employed at the trade, 20; unemployed, 1.

Lamp Workers, 350 members; employed at the trade, 342; outside the trade, 8.

Since the last report there have been 159 new members; 84 members suspended; and 21 members reinstated.
