A. F. G. W. U. HAS HAD A GOOD YEAR.


May 31 marked the close of the fiscal year of the American Flint Glass Workers' Union, a year which, according to the quarterly report of National Secretary-Treasurer Chas. J. Shipman, was the most successful since the institution of the organization in 1878.

During the 12 months of the fiscal year the A. F. G. W. U. membership has increased, while the financial report shows a healthy gain in receipts over expenses. For the last three months the receipts have amounted to $40,169.29 in excess of the expenses of the association.

The past year practically has been free of strikes and lockouts, and the demand for glassware and skilled labor, both of which have been unsurpassed, have contributed greatly to the prosperous condition of the A. F. G. W. U. at present.

The report also contains a table showing the department membership and total membership by years from 1907 to 1917. As compared with 1916, the year 1917 shows gains in the Bulb, Mold Making, Paste Mold, Caster Place, Iron Mold, Machine Press, and Lamp Workers departments.

Since the last report 278 members have been . . . [illegible text] . . .. In the same time 15 members have been reinstated; 33 have been suspended, and 4 have been expelled.
