NO THIRD TERM

For the Kenton County

Republicans.

The Convention Held Saturday.

A large and enthusiastic meeting of the republicans of this county was held at Drexilius Hall last Saturday afternoon.

Mr. J. D. Hearne was chosen Chairman, and Mr. D. N. Comingore Secretary.

The following gentlemen were appointed a committee to select delegates to the State Convention: J. D. Shutt, John E. Hamilton, William Ernst, William Ellis and Captain J. Thompson.

Gen. J. W. Finnell, Col. Robert Richardson, D.S. Moffett, Gov. Fisk and Hon. Joseph Hermes were appointed a committee to draft resolutions, and while both Committees had retired speeches were made by several gentlemen, prominent among whom were Judge Trimble and Hon. Chas. Eginton.

The committee on Resolutions reported the following, which after some discussion were adopted — the last clause by a vote of about 250 to exactly 22:

THE RESOLUTIONS.

This Convention of the Republicans of Kenton county, called for the purpose of electing delegates to the Republican State Convention at Louisville, and for other purposes --

Resolved; That we abide by the platform of principles adopted by the Republican National Convention at Cincinnati, as being in accordance with the established principles of our party and expressive of the sentiments of the Republicans throughout the Union.

Second — That we congratulate the country upon the successful conduct of the Government during the present Ddministration; coming into power at a time of depression and embarassment, the Administration has amply justified the confidence reposed to it, by statesmanly measures, which have not only tended to restore public credit, revive industry and promote the National wealth of the people, but given an earnest of most signal advancement and prosperity in the future.

Third — That whilst we regret to see a third term Presidential issue forced on the country, this Convention announces it earnest adherence to that unwritten law of the Republic, which under the sanction of the greatest examples, limits the Presidential service of any citizen to two terms.

It was noticeable that every colored man present voted for the resolutions, and also all of the old soldiers, with the exception of two — Cols. Wilcox and Oneal.

The Committee on Delegates the reported as follows:
