JERSEY BOTTLE PLANTS RESUMING. Prospects for a very successful glass season becomes brighter daily, and at least eight glass factories are now aglow, some will start for the season next Friday, others on Monday and the resumption of others will follow on the 25th and other dates during the present month and early in October, says the Republican, of Millville, N. J., in its issue of September 13. At the South Millville works of Whitall Tatum Co., fire was started this week in No. 2, which is the wooden mould house, and in No. 8. Other fires aglow there are those under 12 and 9. The work at the experiment factory of the company, a large new building in the southeastern part of the yard, has ben [sic] been operated steadily throughout a good portion of the summer. At the Glasstown works of the same firm the big tank is now getting in readiness for early resumption, and the fire was started there some time ago. Everything is bustle at the Millville Bottle Works and there will be a resumption at an early date, and mould-makers are now working there. Blowing was resumed at the plant of the T. C. Wheaton Co., Millville, N. J., on September 15. The No. 2 tank was the first to start up, giving employment to 125 men. Fires under the pot furnace was lighted on September 14 and will be put in blast in about two weeks. Tank No. 5, which is being operated temporarily, will be continued in blast for a short period. With the coal strike settled, it is not thought likely there will be any serious drawback, and it is hoped that the plants will all continue busy throughout the season of 1922-23. |
