Columbus, O., Sept. 2. The project of the Bell Pottery Company, of Findlay, O., to locate a pottery in this city will, according to a representative of the concern, involve an outlay of upwards of half a million dollars.

Several months ago the company purchased 140 acres of ground in a suburb of this city as a site for the plant, and had arranged to begin the work of construction at once, but the unexpected death of William Bell, the president of the company and prime mover of the enterprise, caused a temporary suspension of operations.

Ground was broken yesterday for the new plant. J. N. Rose, who is here pushing the plans of the firm, stated that the pottery will be made one of the largest in the United States. It will have twelve kilns, which capacity will be doubled soon after the plant is completed. Operations will begin with 600 employes, which number will be increased to 1,000.

A high grade of vitreous, translucent china will be made. General ware will be produced. It is hoped to have the plant in operation by January 1.

TO BUILD MODEL TOWN.

The tract which the company has purchased has been named "Bellwood," and a section of it will be plotted off into streets and lots on which houses, which will cost $2500 apiece, will be built for the employes. They will be modern throughout, containing water, gas and electricity. The enterprise will be similar to that of the Sebring pottery, which sold out its plants at East Liverpool and East Palestine, O., and built a new pottery town at Sebring, O.

The site is adjacent to four railroads, which will afford excellent shipping facilities. A siding was put in last week to the site and material and supplies are now being received.

The company will employ many skilled operatives from the eastern Ohio and New Jersey pottery districts.

The Findlay plant has been in operation for fourteen years.
