DEXTER W. CHILDS

Dexter W. Childs, 54, father of Atty. James W. Childs of 1009 Rosemont Drive, and prominent industrialist, died unexpectedly Saturday at his residence in Valencia, Venezuela.

At the time of his death he was the president and general manager of the Owens-Illinois International Division at Valencia.

Mr. Childs, a native of Detroit, Mich., joined Owens-Illinois at their Muncie plant plant in 1935 and held several positions with the company including Owens-Illinois Inc. at Toledo for several years and with the International Division for the past 12 years.

He went to Venezuela first in 1958, returned to Toledo in 1962, went to Belgium in 1965 and returned to Venezuela in 1968.

Also surviving are his widow, Marcelle; his father, Floyd of Detroit, and three grandchildren.

The body will arrive at 3:50 p. m. Tuesday in Detroit and will be taken to the Alspach Funeral Home here.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wheaton P. Webb officiating.

Preferred memorials are to the Casa Hogar Orphanage at Maracay, Venezuela.
