NEW PATENTS


Among patents granted by the U. S. Patent Office on March 27 were the following of interest in the glass industry:

No. 1,449,793. Glass and process of making same. William Chittenden Taylor, Corning, N. Y., assignor to Corning Glass Works, Corning, N. Y., a corporation of New York. Filed November 29, 1920. The hereinbefore described method of overcoming the yellow tint imparted to acid boro-silicate glasses by iron oxide which consists in adding salt of neodymium oxide to the batch from which such glass is melted.

No. 1,449,808. Mold. Henry R. Boals, Corning, N. Y., assignor to Corning Glass Works, Corning, N. Y., a corporation of New York. Filed November 8, 1921.   A mold having a base, a plurality of auxiliary mold members pivoted thereon, and a main mold slidably mounted upon such base to and from the auxiliary mold members, the pivots of the auxiliary mold members being outside of the joint between the auxiliary mold members and when the mold is in pressing position being below the point between the main mold and the auxiliary mold members, the centers of gravity of each said auxiliary mold members being off-set with respect to its pivot in the direction of the other auxiliary mold member.
