Locke Become G-E Department June 30

Organization, Trade Name Unchanged

Locke Department To Be Part Of Apparatus

Group In Change Affecting Six Affiliates

George E. Burens, President of Locke, recently announced that the company will become a department of the General Electric Company on June. 30.

The Locke Department will be a part of the Apparatus Group, one of General Electric's three main operating groups. The Apparatus Group will be made up of the formerly designated Large Apparatus Divisions, Apparatus Marketing, General Electric X-Ray Corporation, and Locke Incorporated.

Henry V. Erben, one of the three executive vice-presidents of the General Electric Company, is in charge of the Apparatus Group.

Five other manufacturing affiliates of General Electric will also become departments on the same date, according to announcement made in New York by Ralph J. Cordiner, G-E president.

These affiliates are Carboloy Co., Inc., with headquarters in Detroit; General Electric X-Ray Corp., Milwaukee; Telechron, Inc., Ashland, Mass.; Monowatt, Inc., Providence, R.I.; and the Trumbull Electric Manufacturing Co., Plainville, Conn.

Management, Trade Names

Continue Unchanged

In a letter to the company's more than 250,000 stockholders, Mr. Cordiner pointed out that the six affiliates will become G-E departments as "a part of the natural evolution of the company's organization through the years."

"These six subsidiaries enjoy a strong acceptance of their products and trade names in their respective industries. As departments of the General Electric Company, they will continue to operate under their present management and their products will continue to be marketed under their existing trade names," the G-E president said.

How It Affects Locke

Mr. Burens, in commenting on the change, stressed the fact that the present Locke operating personnel will remain intact, and that the reorganization will mean no change in plans for the Locke Department. We will remain a separate operating unit with our own regional sales organization, and our own marketing, manufacturing, engineering, financial and employee and community relations departments continuing to function as before.

He stated that Locke has been wholly owned and operated by G-E since the old Locke Insulator Corporation was taken over in 1931. The new move, Mr. Burens pointed out, does not increase the degree of control by G-E, but places Locke in a different and more logical corner of the General Electric organization.

Variety of Products

The six affiliates involved in the shift produce a wide variety of equipment. Carboloy Co., Inc. produces cemented carbides, under the trademark "Carboloy", as well as magnetic alloys and other materials. G-E X-Ray Corp. produces industrial and medical X-ray machines, electromedical apparatus and related accessories and supplies.

Telechron, Inc., produces electric clocks for household, commercial and advertising uses; radio timers, range timers, industrial timing devices and synchronous timing motors.

Monowatt, Inc., manufactures wiring devices, cord wire and cable, industrial devices, cord sets, and others.

The Trumbull Electric Manufacturing Co. produces a variety of products in the electrical control field, ranging from open knife switches to panelboards and switchboards, circuit breakers, distribution systems, theatre control panelboards, and others.
