ONE KILLED, TWO HURT, IN BLAST

One man was fatally burned and two others suffered severe injuries in the plant of the Whitall Tatum Company, upper works, at Millville, N. J., on February 17. The dead man was John Ferretti, age 33, a glass worker for many years. He was burned when he attempted to adjust a damper on one of the blow devices that have been installed in the factory.

The other men, Guy Fisher and Benjamin Carter, were aiding Ferretti by hauling on a chain leading to the damper and when the huge tongue of flame suddenly shot from the blower they leaped to one side in time to escape a fate similar to Ferretti who was caught in the path of the flame. They were burned, however, and were given medical attention.

A thorough investigation of the blaze was immediately set under way by the Whitall Tatum Company. It is believed that one of the valves had been turned by some unknown contact prior to the attempt to adjust the damper.
