LOS ANGELES TIMES COMMENTS ON COAST GLASS INDUSTRY. The Los Angeles Times, in a recent issue, took notice of the rising prominence of the glass industry on the Pacific Coast and had the following to say about some of the glass factories located there: The plant of the McLaughlin Glass company is equipped with up-to-date machinery sufficient to deliver promptly the products of the institution. These include bottles of capacity from one-half ounce to 12 gallons, glass containers for packers, insulators for telegraph and telephone lines, fish globes, and cylinders in diameter from one inch to 13 inches, up to 30 inches long for oil and gas stations. The McLaughlin Glass company is strictly a local industry, owned entirely by local people and is generously supported not only by glass users of Los Angeles, but all of Southern California. Exporting its product to all parts of the world, the Technical Glass company of Los Angeles, is the only institution of its character in the United States. This company manufactures exclusively flint glass door knobs, including every for immediate attachment. Perhaps the best illustration of the magnitude of this institution is furnished in the statement that the company began operations in small space in 1920 with six employes and a very nominal capital. Today the plant covers a space 75 by 160 feet, furnishes employment for 100 people and the capital stock of $100,000. Glass door knobs and glass drawer pulls are manufactured in hundreds of different sizes and the capacity of the plant is 50,000 daily. Officers are M. H. Rosenthal, president; M. B. Schultz, vice president and treasurer, and W. A. Anderson, secretary and production manager. With a daily output of more than 40,000 bottles, and serving a territory from Santa Barbara on the north to the Mexican line on the south, the West Coast Glass company is the largest exclusive milk bottle manufacturing institution on the Pacific Coast. The plant covers practically four acres in the industrial district of Los Angeles and it is equipped with abundant storage facilities to hold bottles for quick delivery at all times. It was established in 1918 and has kept steady pace with every advancement of the western metropolis. The company, since its inception, has been managed by William Carter, Jr. |
