The newest private contract club for men, scheduled to meet each second Friday evening of the month, was christened at the second meeting last Friday at the home of William Curtis. The name chosen is "The Wrong Contract Club," because, said the originator of this club, "We usually find ourselves there."

Those who best weathered the storm at the July meeting were: W. H, Hocken, Sam Wachsman, plus 5390 points; M. C. Sandles. Dr. R. E. Rutledge, plus 2450; Dr. C. C. Varden, Bert Tuley, plus 1700.

The August meeting will be held on Friday night, August 12, at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Carash, 603 Calmar Avenue.

INSTRUCTION

The Wednesday night instruction tournament held at the Community Bridge Club on Wednesday nights, was sponsored by Robert Wilson, will be discontinued during the Summer vacation period.

When using asking bids, and partner has made one, it is usually best to respond according to the prescribed responses, trusting that the player who has asked is prepared for the consequences. A small slam doubled and redoubled was not reached in the bidding recently because the partner of the asking bidder felt her hand was too weak.

The contract was played at five spades doubled, and was made with an overtrick. The original bidder did not redouble because of partner's sign-off to the asking bid, which was taken to mean the hand was devoid of aces.
