BANQUET CLIMAXES WINTER ATHLETIC

SEASON AT CORNING GLASS WORKS

A most successful winter athletic season at Corning Glass Works, Corning, N. Y., was brought to a close Tuesday evening, April 8, at a banquet given by the Bowling Association at the Masonic Cathedral in Corning. The speakers included Amory Houghton, president of the company, and Whiting Williams, industrial writer and lecturer. James P. Hallahan, former mayor of Corning and service manager at the glassworks, acted as toastmaster and following the dinner presented officers of the association, who reported on the past season's activities and outlined future plans.

In his address Amory Houghton, president of the company, spoke of the future of the athletic and fraternal activities of the association, pointing out that the club house, announced by Ambassador Alanson B. Houghton in 1929 to be erected as a memorial to the late Arthur A. Houghton, was definitely materializing from a plan into a business proposition. He stated that plans for remodeling of the present structure known as the Hayt Mill and plans for erection of a new structure had been submitted for bids. A reply to these bids will be announced in the future. As planned the structure will not only be a benefit to the employes [sic] employees of the glass plant but will also be of distinct advantage to the city of Corning.

It is understood that the club house will contain gymnasium, swimming pool, lockers, lounges, billiard rooms and space for indoor tennis as well as a bowling alley. It is entirely probably, Mr. Houghton said, that the bowlers may be able to continue their league in their own building in 1931.

Newly elected officers of the association, installed at the dinner meeting, are Fred G. Anderson, president; D. M. Crants, vice president; H. M. Clark, treasurer, and H. K. Martin, secretary.
