MUNCIE - Ernest V. Parkison, 93, passed away Monday evening, November 12, 2007 at home.
He was born September 17, 1914 in Delaware County, the son of Sara Bell (Fuson) Parkison and Mentor S. Parkison. Ernest grew up in Muncie and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1932.
Prior to graduation he was employed by Hemingray Glass Company and he continued to work for this company and its successor, Owens-Illinois Glass Company until it ceased operations and he retired, in 1972. He started his second career at First Merchants Bank and then at Mutual Federal Bank and retired in 1994.
He lived with his son and daughter-in-law since 2001.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. Other memberships include the Elks Lodge; Moose Lodge; the Historical Alliance; was active with Toys-for-Tots and was involved with the "What's-It" article in the Star Press.
Survivors include his son, Thomas P. Parkison, (wife-Susie), Muncie; one daughter, Patricia Lynn Parkison, Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandsons, Peter John Parkison; Paul Thomas Parkison, (wife-Missy); Andrew James Parkison, (wife-Elizabeth); Jason Harmon; Phillip Harmon and Neal Thurston; one grand daughter, Jane Harris; his special care giver, Jane King, Muncie; his son-in-law, Stephen Thurston, Noblesville; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Marie (Armstrong) Parkison, who passed away in 2000; one daughter, Barbara Ellen Thurston; and one brother, Bob Parkison.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Rev. David Jones officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
Family and Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday or after 9:00 a.m. Friday.
