CITY AND VICINITY.

THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE FAIR, now open in Concord, proves to be quite extensive and attractive, embracing about all branches of mechanical and manufacturing industry. By the close of this week, the new entries must add very considerably to the present extended list. Yesterday, exhibitors of new machinery were getting their articles in position, and all characteristics of a great show were apparent enough in the sights and sounds in and about the exhibition halls.

There are already on exhibition some samples of the handiwork of Lowell mechanics and artisans. G. W. Lawrence exhibits two cases of dentistry; Lyndeboro' Glass Company, mainly a Lowell institution, shows jars, demijohns, &c.; Woods, Sherwood & Co., wire gauze work; Reed & Hallowell, Mechanics' Mills, steam, gas and water fillings; Geo. L. Cady, wire goods; Geo. W. Raynes, Parmenter's Shuttle and Holder. The displays of woolen fabrics, at present, is mostly from the Lawrence and New Hampshire mills.

On October 22d, 23d, and 24th, tickets from Boston, Lowell and way stations will be issued at half fare, good for the three days mentioned.
