The Valverde Glassworks.

Secretary Durbin says that the Colorado limestone company will probably close a contract to-day for the old glassworks at Valverde and will have its machinery in full operation within a short time. The remains of the glass works are all that is left of an early Denver industry which came to grief for lack of capital, and the taking hold of them by this company will be a good thing for Valverde. Investigation has shown that a great deal of power is required for sawing and grinding, and the big Curtis engine lying idle in the glassworks is exactly what is needed. The other machinery has been ordered. The material will be quarried at Turkey creek and carried to Valverde by the South Park road, which will also furnish an easy way of distributing the product.

A big grindstone will be placed in the mining congress and another in the Union Pacific shops. In spite of the heavy proportion of freight charges to the value of the stone, it is claimed that shipments can be made to all parts of the country because, while this stone cuts as fast as the roughest grindstones now in use it will cut a much harder steel than they will and puts an edge on it the same as if an oilstone had been used.
