WIRES NOT STRUNG

Charles Howell Cook Effectively Pre-

vented Telegraph Linemen

From Working

Two telegraph linemen attempted to string some wires alongside of the residence of Charles Howell Cook at the corner of West State and Calhoun streets this morning.

The linemen did not take kindly to Mr. Cook's demand that they stop work.

Mr. Cook hastily sent for his counsel, ex-Judge Lanning and some policemen from the Central station. A crowd soon collected. The linemen quit work and promised Mr. Cook they would not resume until Monday to enable him to take such legal steps as he desired. Mr. Cook claims the wires will ruin valuable trees.
