STEADY RUN AT KOKOMO. Kokomo, Ind., Jan. 2. — Everything is going along nicely at the D. C. Jenkins Glass Co.'s plant, having 22 shops on the payroll, 18 machines and four press or finishing shops. The past year has been the best in the company's history, their business being so heavy that they had to build another factory. In addition to this they are installing two Owens automatic machines. Those who are familiar with the glass industry know about what this means. The only trouble this firm has is with the small help. They have for years run the factory, destroyed their property and torn up things in general, but now as the day and night managers are working to put a stop to this we think the end of the trouble is in sight. The only stop the workers had for the two big holidays, Christmas and New Years was the two days above mentioned. Henry Sachs has resigned his position owing to bad health. Harry Whittaker has taken Henry's place. George Backman is gathering for him. Everything looks lovely for the shade shop at the Bournique factory, for they have been working steadily all season. Fred Rehbeck has been off sick for some time. He is finishing at this plant. The Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. have closed their local factory for two months for repairs. The writer wishes The Glassworker a happy and a prosperous New Year and sends best wishes to Editor Gauding. — Royal. |
