DIRECTORY

of

ART ORGANIZATIONS

The subdivisions of this directory and the order in which they are presented will be found listed in the general table of contents on page 3.

A complete index, in which organizations are listed alphabetically according to the cities in which they are located and a number of useful classifications with cross references are given, will be found at the end of the book.

In this section the following method of presentation is used:

American Federation of Arts.

National and regional organizations, listed alphabetically according to title.

State and local organizations, listed alphabetically by states.

State-wide organizations, listed first under each state.

Local organizations listed alphabetically by city.

In individual reports the following method of presentation is used :

Organizational set-up:

Name, address, officers, executive staff, date of organization, purpose, dates of annual and board meetings, membership, departmental divisions.

Headquarters and collections:

Permanent headquarters, permanent collections, library, lending material, attendance for 1935, accessions for 1935.

Activities:

Publications, exhibitions, meetings, lectures and other programs, educational activities, other activities and achievements.

Hours open to the public are given immediately following the list of officers or staff.

In the case of national organizations which have regional or local chapters, a list of these concludes the report.

Where omissions occur in a report it may be assumed that the item omitted does not apply to the organization in question, or does not apply to its art activities. Occasionally items are omitted because accurate tacts could not be obtained.

The dagger (†) preceding the name of an organization indicates that it has been impossible to obtain a complete and up-to-date report from that organization and that, therefore, some of the information given may no longer be accurate.

The Greek cross (+) preceding the name of an organization indicates that it is a chapter of The American Federation of Arts.
