Trolley Wire-Hanger.
The accompanying cut illustrates a trolley wire hanger, in which the wire is held by a purely mechanical device, and can be freed and firmly reclasped in a moment's time. The bother of soldering is thus avoided and it is possible to keep hangers in the vertical position and the lines "ship shape" at very small cost of time. As will be seen in the cut, the holding
clamp is of the simplest pattern. By tightening the bolt at the top of the clamp the wire is strongly held, while by loosening it the wire is instantly released. For the rest, the hanger is a strong and thoroughly made device. The insulating medium, vulcanized rubber, is protected by a metallic shell which extends somewhat beyond the rubber, and acts as an insulator skirt. The principle upon which the hanger is attached to the span wire is one now in great favor. It offers ease and rapidity of application, while the tension of the wire keeps the hanger firmly in place. The Electrical Supply company of Chicago, has placed this device upon the market. |
