Messrs. JOHNSON and PHILLIPS, whose patent insulator has done such good service in some parts of Asia and elsewhere, have been generally busy in all departments. It may not be well known that this firm are making carbons for electric light purposes. We know that many of the electric light engineers are complaining of their inability to obtain good and trustworthy carbons, and it seems probable that, if Messrs. Johnson and Phillips continue to pay careful attention to the manufacture, the development of this branch of their work may assume very great proportions. They have also been busy in constructing buoys for cable work, &c., and in the departments connected with the electric light. They were the first makers of the Brockie lamp, now used by the British Electric Light Company.
